Welcome to Bodrum, ancient Halicarnassus, once a great port city of Asia Minor. Today we embark our traditional gulet and meet the crew who will sail with us along the very waters once traveled by St. Paul. As sails rise, we reflect on Acts 21:1: “After we had torn ourselves away from them, we put out to sea and sailed straight to Kos.” Just as St. Paul’s journey began with departure from beloved companions, so too we begin with fellowship, prayer, and a shared meal beneath the stars. The harbor lights remind us that God’s mission always calls usto set out in faith. Overnight on board in Bodrum bay.

We first sail to Cnidus, a city specifically mentioned in Acts 27:7: “We sailed slowly formany days and had difficulty arriving off Cnidus.” Walking its ruined harbor and ancient theatre, we imagine St. Paul’s ship struggling against fierce winds on his voyage to Rome. From here we cross into Greece, arriving at Kos, where St. Paul stopped on his journey back to Jerusalem (Acts 21:1). Here we sense the pace of the apostle’s final travels, when every day and every port was filled with urgency for the Gospel. Evening stroll through Kos’ old town brings Acts alive. Overnight on board.

Today we sail into Symi, a jewel of the Dodecanese, with pastel colored houses rising above a natural harbor. Though Symi is not directly named in Scripture, its Byzantine chapels and monasteries testify to the enduring faith that sprang from apostolic times. In these quiet lanes,we reflect on 2 Corinthians 11:26, where St. Paul recounts: “I have been constantly on the move… in danger from rivers, in danger at sea.” Symi’s tranquil waters stand in contrast tothe storms St. Paul endured, reminding us that God grants rest and fellowship. Tonight, anchoredin a secluded bay, we share worship and prayer under starlight. Overnight on board.

We sail to Rhodes, one of the great crossroads of the ancient world. Acts 21:1 mentions St. Paul’s stop here: “We sailed straight to Kos. The next day we went to Rhodes.” In Rhodes’old town and ancient harbor, we stand where St. Paul once set foot. Surrounded by fortresses and streets layered with history, we recall Acts 16:9, when St. Paul received a vision of a man of Macedonia pleading: “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” Rhodes was such a gateway to Europe, where faith flowed outward. Afternoon is free to explore the medieval city or relax by the harbor before anchoring in a quiet cove for evening worship. Overnight on board.

Today we sail back toward the Turkish coast, anchoring in the rugged Datça Peninsula. These cliffs and coves have changed little since Paul’s time, when countless ships sought safeanchorages along this coastline. Here we rest, swim, and hold time for prayer and fellowship.Psalm 107:23–24 resounds: “Some went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on themighty waters. They saw the works of the Lord, his wonderful deeds in the deep.” Surroundedby turquoise waters, we remember how Paul’s life was both mission and journey, a constanttrust in God’s providence. Overnight in a secluded bay.

Our gulet sails to Bozburun, famed since antiquity for ship building, recalling the manyvessels that carried St. Paul and his companions. Acts 27:23–24 strengthens us: “Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul.’” In the afternoon we reach Loryma, a natural harbor guarded by a fortress. Here, sailors once sought protection, just as St. Paul did in storms and dangers (2 Corinthians11:26). Tonight we gather for a farewell dinner on deck, celebrating fellowship, Scripture, and the bonds of faith. Overnight on board.

This morning we sail into Marmaris, a vibrant harbor town echoing with centuries of maritime history. After breakfast we disembark and transfer to Dalaman Airport. As our pilgrimage ends, St. Paul’s words from 2 Timothy 4:7 send us forth: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Like St. Paul’s journeys, our voyage has been one of both physical travel and spiritual renewal. We leave not only with memories of turquoise seas and ancient ruins but also with deeper faith and the call to continue bearing witness.

Before you book you should know

Is this trip right for you?

This trip is aboard a traditional Turkish gullet (a traditional wooden Turkish motor sailing boat). All cabins will have ensuite bathrooms and you’ll stay in a mixture of twin share and double bed cabins, all on the same deck. It’s recommended that you pack light, as cabins are cosy.

All cabins will experience a light engine noise when the ship is moving (and occasionally when you drop anchor). It’s probably worth packing earplugs if you’re a light sleeper.

A good swimming ability is essential on this trip to enjoy all activities.

Many meals are included onboard the boat. Where meals are not included, you’ll have time on land in beachside towns and resort towns for optional meals.

Some activities and excursions will involve a bit of walking. You’ll be visiting ancient sites and historical places, and at times you may be walking on uneven ground in hot conditions. If you have any concerns, please speak to your local leader.

If you’re travelling with your own group of friends or family and would like to book a private departure on this sailing trip, our Tailor-Made team will be happy to help: https://www.ontheroad.travel/tailor-made-tours.php
